SEO FOR DUMMIES; HOW TO RANK NUMBER #1
Do you want more website traffic? More like, who doesn’t? Welcome to SEO.
What is SEO? Why does it matter? It’s not just a strange sounding acronym, but something that can and will take your business to the next level.
SEO is short for Search Engine Optimization.
What this means is that the better SEO you have on your website, the more people will be able to find your site when they search keywords on a search engines like Google, Yahoo! And Bing.
Meaning, the words you search in Google need to show up on your website in the right places for people to easily find you. They also need to show up on what is called “anchor text” on your website, or words that people can click on that link to other websites.
You may think you have the right words in the right places on your website, however due to Google’s algorithm, you may be totally wrong and never know it.
Why Is It So Important?
With 67.60% of people clicking on the first five organic results, you need to rank high to be seen. Organic traffic is not paid per click, but rather “actually encouraging genuine visitors to visit your page and view your service offering.”
Think about it.. How many times have you Googled something, only to scroll through the first few options to find what you need? Have you actually EVER clicked to see the next page? If you’re like me, I don’t think so.
With an estimated 5.6 billion Google searches a day, you may be missing out on a LOT of website traffic!
81% of ALL PEOPLE ages 16 to 64 search online for a product or service before they go ahead and buy. Do you really want to miss out on that?
Sounds like SEO may be a big deal after all, hey?!
SEO: The How-To
Ok, so now you may be thinking “How do I make my website’s SEO better?”
Well, there are two kinds of SEO, on and off-page optimization.
On-page optimization are things you add to your website to make them more searchable such as adding more keywords more frequently on your page, including them in headers, adding tags, and making the page load faster for the user.
Off-page optimization are links to OTHER pages you add to your website, as well as having other pages which have links to YOUR site (what is called a backlink). Links should have good keywords in the anchor text, where people can click on to read more about them.
I”m only going to say this once, so listen up: Links are more powerful than content. When people add your link to their website, they are basically telling the search engines they want people to find you, and in turn it boosts your SEO rating.
Everyone has their own opinion of what SEO strategy is better. Needless to say, both are important and if you want your website to be seen, it’s probably best to do both.
Sure I could go on and on about SEO, but for those whose head is now spinning- you’ve got a lot of work ahead of you.
